We received a letter from Anthem HIP/ Medicaid on April 1, 2026 stating they were terminating our contract with them as an in-network provider. This was listed and a “no cause” termination, meaning we did not do anything to trigger the contract cancelation. We have been a provider with them almost 20 year so this was upsetting. More upsetting to us is the inability to continue provide our great services to patients that have this insurance and have chosen us to be apart of their health care team. Our contract termination date is July 1. After that time we will no longer be able to accept any new patient with Anthem medicaid/ HIP plans.
The good news: it looks like we can continue care for our current patients that are actively receiving care. We are not getting clear direction on what that looks like or exactly the process we need to take to do this. Patients are receiving letters from Anthem stating we are leaving their network. The lettter states if you are currently under an active treatment plan or are currently pregnant or recently postpartum you may be eligible to continue care.
What do you need to do….. If you are a current patient you need to call Anthem HIP 866-408-6131 and let them know you are under an “active care plan” and want to continue with us. If you are not currently an active patient but have been thinking about getting back in, you needed to do so ASAP.
Patients with Medicaid or HIP have the option of only 3 managed care providers in Indiana. Anthem, Caresource and MHS. After July 1st we will only be in-network with MHS plans or anyone on traditional medicaid. For anyone that wants to stay with us or come back at some point the only option (other than cash pay) would be to ask to change your managed care provider from Anthem to MHS during the open enrollment period that begins Nov. 1. The change would not take effect until January 1st. If you are considering this option, please check with your other healthcare providers to see if they take MHS so you don’t get an unpleasant suprise in January.
I am so very sorry for the inconvienence of all of this. This is not something I ever imagined happening but this is the reality right now. It has been my pleasure to help many, many of you over the years with your health and wellness and I hope that if you don’t end up back at VSC Wellness Center, your next provider takes good care of you. Please reach out if you have any questions or if we can help you in any way.
-Sincerely, Dr Amber James
